Product 4200
Electrical Grade Reconstituted Mica Paper

DESCRIPTION:
Samica 4200 is 100% pure crystalline, electrical grade reconstituted mica paper, composed of several layers of overlapping tiny flakes of muscovite mica (Indian Ruby Mica), held together solely by the flakes surface attraction to one another.

Samica 4200 is manufactured on a special designed paper machine in continuous rolls for convenient production of composite flexible mica tapes and wrappers, pressed semi-flexible sheets or hard plates. There is no binder in Samica 4200; therefore, the paper has to be impregnated with a properly chosen resign when used as an electrical insulating material.

Samica 4200 mica paper can be impregnated with epoxy, polyester, silicone or inorganic binders to give it physical strength and render it impervious to hostile environments. Specific applications may require that it be laminated to polyimide film, porous webs, plain or impregnated glass cloth where its continuous paper form allows high production rates with minimum machine shutdown time.

Samica 4200 provides the user with close caliper control that is impossible to obtain with hand or machine laid mica splittings. It is also available in thicknesses ranging from 1.5 mils to 6.0 mils in 38" or 40" wide continuous rolls free of any breaks or splices.

NOTE: The values shown above are averages based on several determinations and should not be used for specification purposes.

1.Thickness measured in accordance with ASTM D 202 Par. 20 method D using motorized gauge.
2.Electrical strength measured in accordance with ASTM D 1491/4" electrodes, short time.
3.Average base weight determined by method outlined in ASTM D 1677 except specimens dried in 105°C oven one hour before weighing and measured within three minutes from removal.
4.Penetration time determined by method outlined in ASTM D 202 except mica contacted on coarse side with a solution composed of 40 parts toluene and 60 parts cold pressed castor oil adjusted to a specific gravity of 0.917 ± .001 at 77°F (25°C). Samples preconditioned one hour at 220°F (105°C) before testing. 3 mils and 4 mils Samica 4200 paper are only available in a soft (S), and a hard (H) penetration range.
5.Tensile strength determined in accordance with ASTM D 1677 except 3" span and 0.20 in./min. travel.
6.Moisture content of all thicknesses measured per ASTM D 202 immediately after removal from protective polyethylene bag, is less than 1.0% by weight.
